Reissue of The Week

At CMFCP we love reissues... under the radar, rare as hen's teeth records that have been lovingly remastered and repressed in short runs for today's diggers. This is where we draw attention to our favourite new re-releases...

Week 1

Dr. Strangely Strange - Kip of the Serenades

A few years ago I was visiting Colin Tully's house (composer of Gregory's Girl soundtrack, and winner of 1980 Eurovision Song Contest), when he played me a tune called 'Strangely strange, oddly normal', by the wonderfully monikered Dr. Strangely Strange. Their album was long out of print back then, and selling for £200 secondhand. Thankfully, it has recently been rereleased on lovely coloured wax by the folks at Back to Black.
Coming across like a slightly more incapable, significantly odder Incredible String Band, the album meanders through prog-folk stereotypes, only to break them now and again with oddly imposing vocals, setting forth the stories of such characters as 'a baker from Ferrara' and 'Dr. Dim'. It's all a bit silly, sounding very much like a drug induced lullaby for confused children, brimming with unusual - sometimes questionable - musical choices.
